David Salisbury Brown Mitchell, M.S., Ph.D., is core faculty and assistant professor of research psychology in the integral transpersonal psychology doctoral program at the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS). Outside of the institution, he serves on the leadership team for the Extraordinary Experience Empowerment Alliance, which is an international community that supports mental health professionals’ understanding of exceptional human experiences, on the editorial board for Mindfield: The Bulletin of the Parapsychological Association, and is a regular contributor to that publication. Dr. Mitchell is a member of the Society for Scientific Exploration (SSE), the Parapsychological Association (PA), and the Anomalous Cognition and Occurrences Research Network (ACORN).
Dr. Mitchell’s disciplinary interests include transpersonal psychology, parapsychology, and hominology, while his overlapping conceptual interests involve the following: a) exceptional human experiences, and particularly those involving liminal entity encounters of the kind reported in mythological, folkloric, transpersonal, and parapsychological traditions (e.g., homin entity encounters); b) deep/transpersonal memory; and c) Western culture of science as it relates to fringed topics of study within the academy.
